Swiss lyric coloratura soprano Hannah Beutler has been a permanent member of the Theater Koblenz ensemble since the 2023/24 season. Her repertoire there includes Adele in Die Fledermaus, Gretel in Hänsel und Gretel, Echo in Ariadne auf Naxos and Woglinde in Das Rheingold, as well as Marzelline in Fidelio, Sophie in Werther and Euridice in Orfeo ed Euridice. In the house’s 2026 production of Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann, she sings Olympia, Antonia, Giulietta and Stella. Her announced engagements for 2027 include Sophie in Der Rosenkavalier and Belinda in Dido and Aeneas.
Ms. Beutler’s work in Baroque repertoire includes Bellezza in Koblenz’s staged production of Handel’s Il trionfo del Tempo e del Disinganno in 2025 and Michal in Saul. In 2023, she sang Ännchen in Der Freischütz at the Ettlinger Schlossfestspiele. Alongside her operatic work, she appears regularly as a concert soloist in Switzerland and Germany, with a repertoire encompassing Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, Mozart’s Great Mass in C minor, Dvořák’s Stabat Mater and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9. She sang the latter with the Rheinische Philharmonie under Enrico Delamboye at the Rhein-Mosel-Halle in January 2025.
Contemporary music and projects across genres form a further strand of her work. These include collaborations with her father, guitarist Mats Scheidegger, and the world premiere of a commissioned work by Bernhard Lang. Her bachelor’s project, The Great Gig in the Sky, received a prize in 2019.
Ms. Beutler studied with Lina Maria Åkerlund at Zurich University of the Arts, completing both her performance and pedagogy master’s degrees with distinction. During her final year, she studied with Ulrike Sonntag as an Erasmus student at the University of Music and Performing Arts Stuttgart; their artistic collaboration continues. She received a Friedl Wald Scholarship in 2019 and a Hirschmann Scholarship in 2022.
