Hans Kittelmann

Hans Kittelmann is a German character tenor who has built an extensive repertoire across the character and Spieltenor Fach. He studied at Universität der Künste Berlin from 1998 to 2001 with Professor Anke Eggers, before continuing his training at Hochschule für Musik Nürnberg from 2001 to 2004 with Professor Siegfried Jerusalem. In 2003–2004, he was a member of the first International Opera Studio at Staatstheater Nürnberg.

From 2012, Mr. Kittelmann has been a permanent ensemble member at Staatstheater Nürnberg. Previously, he was an ensemble member at Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz München from 2010 to 2012, Staatsoper Stuttgart from 2006 to 2010, and Staatsoper Hannover from 2004 to 2006. His repertoire includes Mime in Richard Wagner’s Das Rheingold and Siegfried, the Hauptmann in Alban Berg’s Wozzeck, and Valzacchi in Richard Strauss’s Der Rosenkavalier. He has also performed Mackie Messer in Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill’s Die Dreigroschenoper.

Alongside his operatic work, Mr. Kittelmann performs music of the 1920s and 1930s, with a particular focus on the works of Bertolt Brecht and Kurt Weill, in recital programmes. He was a finalist in the 6th International Singing Competition for Wagner Voices in 2009.
