Russian mezzo-soprano Ruzana Grigorian has been a member of the Staatsoper Hannover ensemble since the 2020/21 season, singing repertoire from Monteverdi to contemporary opera. Amneris is a focus of her recent work: alongside performances in Hannover, she appeared with the Pannon Philharmonic at the Kodály Centre in Pécs in 2025 and in Stadttheater Klagenfurt’s production of Aida, which opened in September 2026.
In 2025, Ms. Grigorian created the role of a Pregnant Woman in Michael Wertmüller’s Echo 72. Israel in München in Hannover. Her contemporary repertoire also includes Mrs. Alexander in Philip Glass’s Satyagraha and the Third Secretary in John Adams’s Nixon in China. These engagements sit alongside Carmen, Olga in Eugene Onegin, Maddalena in Rigoletto, Hänsel in Hänsel und Gretel and Emilia in Otello.
Her work with the Hannover company extends to Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro, Ottavia in L’incoronazione di Poppea and Mère Jeanne in Dialogues des Carmélites. She has also sung the Foreign Princess in Rusalka and the Weaver in The Tale of Tsar Saltan, and appeared in the company’s staged production of Verdi’s Messa da Requiem.
Before joining Hannover, Ms. Grigorian belonged to the International Opera Studio at Staatsoper Hamburg from 2017 to 2019. Her roles there included Maddalena, Flora in La traviata, Wowkle in La fanciulla del West and Siébel in Faust. She also sang Zaida in Il turco in Italia, Laura in Luisa Miller and Samischa in Telemann’s Miriways, as well as roles in Die Zauberflöte and Hänsel und Gretel. Earlier appearances include Olga at the Mozarteum Salzburg and Theater Orfey.
On the concert stage, she performed Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Palau de la Música Catalana in Barcelona and Mozart’s Requiem in Berlin in 2019. Her distinctions include third prize at the 28th Spazio Musica Competition in 2023, first prize at the Nuovo Canto Competition in Milan in 2018 and a place in the final of the 55th Francisco Viñas Competition in Barcelona that year.
Ms. Grigorian completed her master’s degree at the Mozarteum University Salzburg in 2017.
