Congratulations to Theo Magongoma on this fabulous review in Der Opernfreund, naming him Best Vocal Performance in a Main Role for his portrayal of Macbeth in Osnabrück!
“Der südafrikanische Bariton Theo Magongoma wird in der Titelrolle von Verdis Macbeth zum Bühnenereignis. Versiert, kraftvoll und farbenreich präsentiert er den machthungrigen Adeligen als Getriebenen zwischen Lust und Wahnsinn. Da kann man nicht wegschauen und -hören.” A wonderful recognition of Theo’s powerful and captivating performance. Bravissimo! 👏
One more amazing review for Theo Magongoma’s Macbeth in Osnabrück
Opernwelt, May 2026 Macbeth – Theater Osnabrück “For the title role, guest singer Theo Magongoma – originally from Cape Town – proves an ideal choice: a true Verdi baritone with a stunning attack, reliable upper register, magnificent legato, and an enormous palette of colour that compellingly authenticates his richly layered portrait of the character. His Macbeth is no monster, but a vacillating character, gnawed by doubt, erratic and weak – with power as the compensatory addiction. An event. We will hear more from Magongoma.”. Proud to represent such an outstanding artist. Bravo, Theo. #kanttilamanagement #theomagongoma #southafricanbaritone #verdibaritone #dramaticbaritone
A huge shout-out to baritone Theo Magongoma for the fantastic review from Der Opernfreund on the occasion of his role debut as Macbeth in Osnabrück.
Bravo on this outstanding achievement! 👏🎭 “It is extremely rare for a singer to seem like ideal casting right at his role debut, but it almost feels as if Verdi’s Macbeth had been waiting nearly 180 years for the South African baritone Theo Magongoma. With great fervour and seemingly inexhaustible power, Magongoma creates an intense portrayal that masterfully explores all facets of this complex character - from forceful battle cries to the ‘Pietà, rispetto, amore’ of a disillusioned careerist who has lost everything. He becomes the embodiment of his stage character.” Foto: Stephan Glagla
