Barış Yavuz

Turkish baritone Barış Yavuz has been a permanent ensemble member of the Anhaltisches Theater Dessau since 2023, where his roles have included Nicomedes (König Kandaules), Masetto (Don Giovanni), Baron Weps (Der Vogelhändler), and Sharpless (Madama Butterfly). In the 2025/26 season he will appear there as Schaunard (La Bohème) and in two new productions: Guglielmo (Così fan tutte) and Dr. Falke (Die Fledermaus).
From 2018 to 2021, Mr. Yavuz was a member of the opera studio at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, where he gained stage experience in roles such as Masetto (Don Giovanni), Wagner (Faust), and Nathanael (Les Contes d’Hoffmann). Further engagements have taken him to the Saarländisches Staatstheater, the Salzburg “Oper im Berg” Festival, and as soloist with the Istanbul State Symphony Orchestra and the Wernigerode Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.
Mr. Yavuz began his vocal training at the Istanbul University State Conservatory at the age of 17, before completing a Master’s degree at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe in 2021 with distinction. During his studies, he worked closely with Julia Varady and Dorothea Röschmann, who continue to shape his artistic development.
A laureate of several competitions, Mr. Yavuz was awarded the Special Prize at the 3rd International Singing Competition “Sedat Gürel – Güzin Gürel Arts and Science Foundation,” First Prize at the 10th National Young Soloists Singing Competition, and First Prize at the 20th Siemens Opera Competition in Istanbul..
