Hany Abdelzaher

Tenor Hany Abdelzaher was born in Cairo, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in voice at the Cairo Conservatory. He continued his education at the Universität Mozarteum Salzburg, graduating with a master’s degree in opera and music theatre. He also holds a performance diploma (LTCL) from Trinity Guildhall London.
Mr. Abdelzaher has been a member of the ensemble at Theater Regensburg since the 2022/23 season. During the 2024/25 season, his roles include the Sailor and Shepherd (Tristan und Isolde), Macduff (Macbeth), and B.F. Pinkerton (Madama Butterfly). In 2023/24, he performed Bacchus (Ariadne auf Naxos), the Prince (Rusalka), and the Circus Director in the German premiere of Peter Eötvös’s Valuska. The previous season featured his appearances as Titorelli (Der Prozess), Macduff (Macbeth), and the title role in Leonard Bernstein’s Candide.
In 2022, Mr. Abdelzaher made his debut at Theater Bremen in the title role of Verdi’s Don Carlo. In 2021, he performed Turiddu in Cavalleria Rusticana at the Teatro Luigi Mancinelli in Orvieto. He was engaged to sing Radamès (Aida) at the Staatstheater Bielefeld in 2020 and covered the role of Don Carlo at the Salzburg Easter Festival in the same year under the musical direction of Christian Thielemann.
Earlier engagements include Tito (La clemenza di Tito) at both the Wiener Konzerthaus and the Graz Musikverein (2018), Don José (Carmen) and Vaudémont (Iolanta) at the Operosa Opera Festival in Montenegro and Serbia (2017–2018), and Idomeneo at Theater Akzent in Vienna (2018). While studying in Salzburg, he appeared in several productions at the Mozarteum, including Rinuccio (Gianni Schicchi), the Male Chorus (The Rape of Lucretia), Don José (Carmen), and Nerone (L’incoronazione di Poppea).
Mr. Abdelzaher’s concert repertoire includes performances with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra (Carmen, Werther, 2019), the Salzburg Philharmonic (Aida, 2016), and the Vienna Young Philharmonic. He has also appeared in gala concerts in Vienna, Moscow, and Cairo.
He is the winner of the 2021 International Opera Competition “Spazio Musica” in Orvieto, Italy, and a finalist in the 2018 Beniamino Gigli International Singing Competition in Rome.
