Finnish baritone Tomi Punkeri completed his master’s studies at the Royal Danish Opera Academy in 2020. His teachers have included Anne Margrethe Dahl, Jens Søndergaard, Markku Liukkonen and Jarmo Junno. From 2020 to 2022, Mr. Punkeri was a member of the Young Artist Programme of the Royal Danish Opera.

In the 2025–2026 season, Mr. Punkeri returns to Ilmajoen musiikkijuhlat as Mikko in Uljas Pulkkis’s Isoviha, following the work’s world premiere there in 2024–2025. Recent engagements include Shaklovity in Khovanshchina with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra at Berwaldhallen and Musiikkitalo, Papageno in Die Zauberflöte at Oulu Theatre, and Ned Keene in Peter Grimes and Dandini in La Cenerentola at the Royal Danish Opera. During his time at the Royal Danish Opera, he also appeared as Masetto in Don Giovanni, Schaunard in La bohème, Karl in David Bruce’s Intet and Steuermann in Tristan und Isolde. Earlier stage appearances include productions at the Royal Danish Opera Academy, Musiikkitalo and Oulu Theatre.

Mr. Punkeri is also active in concert, oratorio and Lied repertoire. He has appeared with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Royal Danish Orchestra, Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Turku Philharmonic Orchestra, Tapiola Sinfonietta, Finnish Baroque Orchestra, Ostrobothnian Chamber Orchestra, Oulu Symphony Orchestra, Vaasa City Orchestra and Kymi Sinfonietta, working with conductors including Esa-Pekka Salonen, Nicholas Collon, Paolo Carignani, Gábor Takács-Nagy, Julia Jones and Stuart Stratford.

In 2023, Mr. Punkeri received a special prize as a finalist of the Klaudia Taev Competition and was nominated by CPHCulture for Opera Singer of the Year in Denmark. He was a semifinalist at the Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in 2022, the Wigmore Hall International Song Competition in 2019 and the Concours musical international de Montréal in 2018. His performances have been broadcast by Yle, BBC, Sveriges Radio and DR.
