Concert appearances include Gurnemanz with Theater Bielefeld and Hunding in Die Walküre, Act I, at the Volksoper Wien in 2024.

Mr. Hörl made his Bayreuth Festival debut in 2015 as Fafner in Das Rheingold and Siegfried, under Kirill Petrenko in Frank Castorf’s Der Ring des Nibelungen. He returned to Bayreuth for Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg and the Ring, and sang Fafner in Oldenburg in 2022. His Wagner engagements also include King Marke in Tristan und Isolde at the Teatro dell’Opera di Roma under Daniele Gatti and a televised Ring cycle in Odense with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra. Claudio Abbado invited him to perform Tristan und Isolde with the Berlin Philharmonic at the Salzburg Easter Festival and subsequently in Tokyo.

Alongside this repertoire, Mr. Hörl has appeared as Sarastro at the Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater and Schlossfestspiele Schwerin, and as Bartolo in Le nozze di Figaro at the Volksoper Wien. He returned to Opernhaus Zürich as Le Grand-Mogol in Offenbach’s Barkouf in 2022 and 2023. He made his Teatro alla Scala debut as the First Apprentice in Wozzeck under Ingo Metzmacher in 2016, and has also performed works by Henze, Hartmann, Eötvös and Berio.

His concert repertoire includes sacred works by Bach, Haydn, Mozart, Schubert, Verdi and Rossini. Recent appearances include Frank Martin’s In terra pax with the MDR-Sinfonieorchester in 2023 and Bruckner’s Te Deum in Würzburg in 2025. His recordings include the Hermit in Der Freischütz for WDR under Bruno Weil and Königskinder with the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin under Ingo Metzmacher.

Mr. Hörl was a member of the Hamburg State Opera ensemble from 2001 to 2005, followed by two seasons at Cologne Opera. Early role debuts included Baron Ochs (Der Rosenkavalier, Bremerhaven 2004) and the Landgrave (Tannhäuser, Minden 2005). At Opernhaus Zürich (2007–2012), he appeared in La bohème with Jonas Kaufmann and Barbara Frittoli, Le Cid with José Cura and Don Giovanni with Anna Netrebko. His subsequent engagement at the Wiener Staatsoper, from 2012 to 2014, encompassed Sarastro, Titurel, the Commendatore and Warlaam, among other roles.

Mr. Hörl studied with Kurt Moll at the Cologne University of Music and furthered his training in masterclasses. He began his professional career at the Hamburg State Opera’s International Opera Studio in 1999.
