Beginning with the 2026/27 season, Clemens Fieguth takes up the position of First Kapellmeister and Deputy General Music Director at Staatstheater Kassel. He joins the company following four years at Theater Erfurt, where he conducted more than 20 works of music theatre. His own productions there included Peter Grimes, Tosca, Rusalka, Dornröschen, Anatevka, La Bohème, Hänsel und Gretel, and Le Sacre du printemps, as well as the award-winning production of Titanic.
During his tenure in Erfurt, guest conducting engagements brought him back to the Staatskapelle Weimar and also took him to the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe, Jenaer Philharmonie, Staatstheater Kassel, and Mecklenburgische Staatskapelle Schwerin.
Alongside his work in opera and music theatre, Mr. Fieguth has developed a broad symphonic repertoire. He has conducted symphonies by Beethoven, Brahms, Bruckner, and Vaughan Williams, a range of solo concertos, as well as the requiems of Mozart and Brahms. Another focus of Mr. Fieguth's work is the development of moderated concert and music outreach formats. In his series Clemens entdeckt … (“Clemens discovers …”), in which he lead the creation and development of the format, Mr. Fieguth guides audiences through musical works and their wider contexts.
Mr. Fieguth's conducting career began in 2022 with his debut with the Staatskapelle Weimar, when he stepped in at short notice to conduct a performance of Detlev Glanert’s opera Caligula. Shortly afterwards, he was appointed Second Kapellmeister at Theater Erfurt and was promoted to First Kapellmeister for the 2023/24 season.
Mr. Fieguth previously studied percussion in Cologne before continuing with orchestral conducting at the Hochschule für Musik Franz Liszt Weimar under Prof. Nicolás Pasquet and Ekhart Wycik. During his studies, he worked with ensembles including the Jenaer Philharmonie, Thüringen Philharmonie Gotha-Eisenach, Staatskapelle Weimar, Anhaltische Philharmonie Dessau, and Karlovarský symfonický orchestr.
Mr. Fieguth developed a particular commitment to working with young musicians over many years as a teacher, assistant, and Artistic Director of various youth and state youth orchestras. Music education and the communication of orchestral culture continue to form an integral part of his artistic work.
