Janne Sihvo

Finnish bass Janne Sihvo is one of the most promising young voices to emerge from Finland in recent years. In January 2025, he won First Prize at the Lappeenranta National Singing Competition, Finland’s most prestigious national singing competition, whose previous prizewinners include internationally renowned Finnish singers such as Martti Talvela, Matti Salminen, Karita Mattila, Soile Isokoski and Camilla Nylund.

Sihvo has already established a close relationship with the Finnish National Opera, where his roles have included Masetto in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, the Monk (Carlo V) in Verdi’s Don Carlo and the Sacristan in Puccini’s Tosca. In 2027, he returns to the company as Colline in Puccini’s La bohème.

His international career is developing rapidly. In summer 2026, Sihvo made his debut at the Bregenzer Festspiele as Marchese d’Obigny in Verdi’s La traviata.

His concert repertoire includes major works by Bach, Mozart and Dvořák. Recent and forthcoming engagements include Dvořák’s Requiem with the Saimaa Sinfonietta and the role of the Archbishop in Szymanowski’s King Roger with the Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra at the Helsinki Music Centre. He has also appeared as bass soloist in Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, St John Passion and St Matthew Passion, as well as Mozart’s Requiem.

Before concentrating on singing, Sihvo trained as a classical guitarist, completing a Bachelor of Music in classical guitar and pedagogy at Oulu University of Applied Sciences. He subsequently continued his vocal studies at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.
