Die finnische Sopranistin Helena Juntunen hat sich eine internationale Karriere an bedeutenden europäischen Häusern aufgebaut, darunter die Opéra National de Lyon, das Festival d’Aix-en-Provence, die Semperoper Dresden, La Monnaie – De Munt in Brüssel, das Grand Théâtre de Genève, die Opéra National du Rhin und die GöteborgsOperan. Seit 1999 ist sie Mitglied der Finnish National Opera. Dort umfasst ihr Repertoire Zdenka (Arabella), Sophie (Der Rosenkavalier), Mimì (La Bohème), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte) sowie Rollen in Uraufführungen von Jüri Reinvere und Sebastian Fagerlund.
Frau Juntunen begann ihre Gesangsausbildung im Alter von fünfzehn Jahren am Oulu Conservatoire bei Airi Tokola. Später erwarb sie an der Sibelius Academy, wo sie bei Anita Välkki studierte, den Abschluss Master of Music. 2002 gewann sie die Damenwertung des Lappeenranta Singing Competition; 2006 wurde ihr der Karita Mattila Prize verliehen.
Ihr professioneller Durchbruch gelang ihr 2002 als Marguerite in Faust beim Savonlinna Opera Festival. In der Spielzeit 2003/2004 folgten mehrere Debüts: an der Connecticut Opera (Faust), am Teatro Carlo Felice Genoa (Il viaggio a Reims), an der Vlaamse Opera (Arabella) und an der Semperoper Dresden (Die Zauberflöte) sowie Konzertauftritte in der Carnegie Hall und in Tokio. Weitere Engagements umfassten Countess Almaviva und Donna Elvira an der Opéra National de Lyon, Marie (Wozzeck) an der Opéra de Nice, Clara (Der Zwerg) und Marietta (Die tote Stadt) an der Opéra National de Lorraine, Tatiana (Eugene Onegin) am Wasa Theatre sowie Greta Graumann (Der ferne Klang) an der Opéra National du Rhin.
Besonders eng ist sie mit der Rolle der Pamina verbunden, die sie beim Festival d’Aix-en-Provence unter Daniel Harding, an La Monnaie – De Munt unter René Jacobs, am Grand Théâtre de Genève, bei den Wiener Festwochen, am Theater an der Wien und an der Semperoper Dresden gesungen hat. Zu ihren weiteren jüngeren Auftritten zählen Madama Butterfly und Donna Elvira beim Savonlinna Opera Festival, Marie/Marietta in Die tote Stadt am Theater Basel, Salome in Straßburg und Káťa Kabanová an der Opéra National de Lorraine.
Im Konzert war Frau Juntunen unter anderem mit den Berliner Philharmonikern unter Donald Runnicles, dem BBC Symphony Orchestra unter Osmo Vänskä und dem Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra unter Leif Segerstam zu erleben. Ihr Repertoire umfasst Luonnotar, Missa Solemnis, Vier letzte Lieder sowie Werke von Unsuk Chin, Hafliði Hallgrímsson und Szymanowski. Sie hat für Ondine und BIS Aufnahmen eingespielt, darunter die ersten Orchesteraufnahmen von Sibelius’ Höstkväll und Hertig Magnus.

It's not everyday we hear Jean Sibelius performed by a Finnish native-speaker, and when you do..
you just want to share it with the world 😍 So, that's what we did - at least the small Kanttila Management corner of the world. We are thrilled to announce that Bass Janne Sihvo, the winner of this year’s Lappeenranta Singing Competition, has officially joined the roster of Kanttila Management!
The Lappeenranta Singing Competition is Finland’s most prestigious national singing contest, with former winners such as Karita Mattila, Soile Isokoski, Jorma Hynninen, Camilla Nylund, Helena Juntunen, and Suvi Väyrynen, all of whom have gone on to enjoy significant international careers. This year’s competition showcased an exceptionally high level of talent, and for the first time since Martti Talvela’s legendary victory in 1960, a bass has claimed the first prize.
