The artist
Dutch soprano Jessey-Joy Spronk has been a member of the Harztheater ensemble since 2022. Her roles there include Sieglinde in Die Walküre in 2025/26, Violetta in La traviata, the title role in Rusalka, Freia in Das Rheingold and Mimì in La bohème. In 2025, she also sang Elle in Poulenc’s La voix humaine at the Wernigeröder Schlossfestspiele. Her announced Harztheater engagements for 2026/27 include Agathe in Der Freischütz, Franziska in Das Wirtshaus im Spessart and Fedora Palinska in Die Zirkusprinzessin.
Alongside her operatic work, operetta forms a substantial part of her repertoire at the Harztheater, where she has appeared as Sylva Varescu in Die Csárdásfürstin and Evelyne Valera in Maske in Blau. Other roles with the company include Helena in Britten’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream and the First Lady in Die Zauberflöte.
Ms. Spronk made her operatic debut in 2016 as Violetta with O.M.E.G.A. Musica in Castelfiorentino, having won the role in the organisation’s international competition. She subsequently won the German International Opera Competition of Opera Classica Europa, the Concorso Evan Gorga in Italy and the fifth Simone Alaimo Bel Canto Competition in Sicily. These successes led to further Violetta engagements and concert appearances. She made her Dutch debut in the role at Festival Classique in The Hague in 2022 and has also sung it with Opera Compact.
At Oper Leipzig, she made her house debut as Helmwige in Wagner and Loriot’s Der Ring an einem Abend in 2021, returning for the complete Die Walküre in 2022. Her engagements with Opera Classica Europa include Micaëla in Carmen, Hanna Glawari in Die lustige Witwe and Mimì in La bohème. On the concert stage, she has performed the soprano part in Verdi’s Requiem.
After graduating from Codarts Rotterdam in 2016, Ms. Spronk continued her studies with private teachers in the Netherlands and Germany. In 2019, she attended Dolora Zajick’s Institute for Young Dramatic Voices in Nevada, working with Zajick, Luana DeVol and John Parr. Further training included the Opernwerkstatt Festival der jungen Stimmen in Switzerland with Andreas Kriegenburg and Roland Böer. In 2026, she received a scholarship from the Richard-Wagner-Stipendienstiftung.
